There are so many gas stations to choose from. Some bad, some good and some expensive. So which one do you prefer?
I don't drive yet, so I can't give you an accurate answer, however I've heard that Arco gas is terrible for your engine and Shell V-Power is best.

Whenever I can I go to the gas station at my local supermarket because I can get intervals of 10 cents off with the bonus card. Every hundreds dollars you spend within a certain given period, nets you 10 cents off per gallon.
If I'm not around one of those when I need gas however, I usually stop off at a local chain called NOCO.

Shell, since I buy diesel.
Gas? Sunoco or Shell.

I don't have a brand, but I do have a specific location. There's one shell station I always go to on the way home from work. I usually only fill-up there.

I go with large name brand ones, every now and then I'll go with a wawa, but usually shell or chevron. And I always try to keep my tank full, in case I get a bad batch of gas, or there is too much ethanol in it.

Costco!
May have long lines.

I get gas from Cumberland Farms. They have competitive prices normally but they also have a check link card that gets me $0.10 off a gallon. Also the are conveniently located to me and work.

I choose gas stations based on dumb things in all honesty. Back home Wesco is always a few cents cheaper then Shell & closer to the beach. In Detroit I goto BP because at the other close gas station, Sunoco, I always get asked for change. I avoid bums.

I go with shell when I can and stay away from speedway

I look for high volume, or the newest tanks. Also, if a station pumps slowly, I interpret that to mean that they don't take good care of their pumps and filters, and shop elsewhere.

I use Ethanol Free in my FR-S, or V-power in a pinch.
My Jetta gets whatever is cheapest.

Well, a lot of stations use pretty much the same stuff.
There are some i try to avoid because of their profit set ups.
BP, Mobil, Exxon all get 10 cents a gallon profit, the rest pretty much do 5 cents a gallon profit. I prefer the to make less money off me so I go to Shell where I also get a discount from my grocery store.
Some companies buy whatever is cheapest from whoever. Pay attention to your octane ratings on the pumps...not all "regular" is equal lol.

I go with exclusively Shell or BP around me, as I can guarantee 93 octane w/ additives at those locations. The other stations' "premium" is often 91 and I could tell after a while that my car wasn't running as smoothly as I liked, so I went back to the name brands.

whichever is the newest AND!!!! has high traffic flow of customers. With lots of people buying fuel, the underground tanks don't stay full for long causing you to get old fuel. Also, if they have to refill the tanks often, debris will never have time to settle at the bottom causing a swirl of trash if you stop by after a reload. Yep, gas stations with constant customers almost guarantees fresh clean fuel. Brand doesn't matter too much, they all meet a requirement. The additives and detergents between Shell and all the other brands are the same dude. You can get shitty old Shell and you can get good fresh Shell. Location is key

Normally some blend of cheapness, closeness and doesn't-look-shitty-ness. If I had my pick I would probably normally choose shell because they're normally clean and project an air of quality. I get suspicious of the quality of the fuel at some of the shittier places.

I chose Sunoco, Shell, and Haffners.
Sunoco and Shell because they are good stations with good gas.
and Haffners because race gas.

Generally Shell or Sunoco. The latter is the only one that has 91 in my area, which my one vehicle requires.
I avoid the stations selling cheap fuel mostly because the ridiculous traffic.

I go with Valero. It's a name brand so I feel like it's probably good gas, and there's one near my house that's usually the same price as the shitty discount stuff.
When I'm on road trips, I always look for Sinclair. Why? Because their logo is an awesome dinosaur that makes me smile because I'm an 8-year-old trapped in a grown man's body.

In Canada I typically go to Safeway because of the discount you get after buying groceries (up to 21 cents off a L, or about 80 cents a gallon for you Yankee types). If I don't have enough points then I usually just go to Shell and get Airmiles

I usually fill up with 98 octane at Statoil, because it's real close and decent. I figured that driving out to get cheaper fuel somewhere else isn't worth it.
Before I switched to Statoil I used fill up at a station ran by my city's bus company, but they stopped selling 98 octane about a year ago.
I bought Shell V-Power a few times, but it's pretty funny here, since it's not actually 98 octane. Shell V-Power Racing seems a bit pointless at 100 octanes (if your engine can't utilise this it's actually detrimental to use super high octane), and it's expensive.
Around here filling up at stations owned by shopping centres is often a pretty good idea too. The prices are usually the lowest around (since the station isn't supposed to make money but bring customers), and they actually buy their fuel from proper wholesalers. They also have large turnovers so the fuel doesn't get old sitting in their tanks.

93 octane is getting harder to come by in the Fox Valley, WI. I get 91 ethnol free for now, but I might be going to E85 in my MX-5 because tuning for it is cheap, easy, and will get me mucho torque.

Shell. Also, I avoid ZX/Citgo at all costs.
![]() 02/10/2014 at 12:57 |

I go to Citgo, because it's next o my work and it has 93 octane.

I only fill up with Shell. My M3 used to run like crap on Arco gas from the station near my home, so I switched to Shell and have used it ever since.
No problems on any of my Bimmers or on the Z using Shell.

My absolute favorite is the Ethanol-free station near where I work, but I can never really afford tankfuls there, so I go to Costco to fill up. I used to go to Shell all the time, but with my car's mood swings, I wouldn't be able to tell a difference at all.
![]() 02/10/2014 at 13:07 |

I'm surprised your M3 runs at all after drinking Arco...

Depending on the price and whether or not I am hungry I switch between Sams Club. Wawa, and Shell

Just the busiest name brand-name gas station around you. The busiest ones have the freshest fuel and likely change out the filters most often. If the gas pumps really slow, use a different station next time.

Yea, that was a very short experiment LOL
I used to occasionally use Chevron, but these days I'm exclusively Shell.

Wherever's the cheapest, which I find out using the Gas Buddy app on my phone. 99.9% of the time that ends up being a a local Wisconsin chain called PDQ .
There's also a local chain of Mobil-branded stores called Kelley's Market , which is the closest convenience store to my house, so I buy random crap there and build up a gas discount on the loyalty card. But they have a ridiculous $0.40/gal upcharge for premium. So for my 135is that takes premium I never buy gas there, but I'll fill my Grand Cherokee up with regular there once I get up to like $0.10/gal off on the loyalty card.

Shell seems to be a really good value, though I have actual evidence of this. They never seem to rip me off for buying 92, though.

It is a good value. Plus, I have a grocery store rewards card that gives me discounts on Shell gas when I purchase groceries.

I stick to the brands that sell top-tier gasoline .

Whatever is cheapest and counts as a gas station. (some aren't categorized as one so you won't get the credit card cash back designated for gas stations).
I honestly don't notice a difference in gas as long as I stick to a larger brand

I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. I always fill up where it's cheapest at that moment. Germany recently passed a few laws limiting oil companies'/gas station owners' abilities to arbitrarily plays arounf with fuel prices. Before that, prices would fall and rise again every hour or so. Now they have to post their prices online, so there are a few nice apps which use your GPS location and show you the prices at stations near you.

FRN? I have that thing, but I don't think I ever shop anywhere that counts...

Yea that's it. My mom has one too, but since she never gets gas at Shell I tied my her card to mine, so when she shops I get the benefits. Hehe

The one I work for. Formerly a Gulf franchise, but now we're independent. We still use the same oil company as before though, so you *could* say it's still Gulf. We have regular 87 and no ethanol 90. I've tried the 90 before but didn't notice a difference and it costs MORE than diesel. So it's 87 for me.

I rotate between Speedway (they have a good rewards program), Meijer, Shell, and BP. Usually its whatever one i drive by when im low.
